Staplegrove Scout Group

Staplegrove Scout group celebrated 75 years of scouting in
the village in 2008. Currently the group has 3 different sections:
|
Beaver colony (6 - 8 years) that meet on a Tuesday from
6.00 – 7.15pm | |
|
Cub pack (8 - 10½ years) that meet on a Monday from 6.30
– 8.00pm | |
|
2 Scout troops 10½ - 14 years. 'Young Guns’ meet on Wednesdays 7.00 – 9.00pm and ‘Monkey Fists’ on Thursdays 7.00 – 9.00pm |
After Scouts young people can join Explorer Scouts,
organised in the Taunton Deane District. Meetings are on a variety of evenings
at various meeting places in Taunton.
Staplegrove Scout Group prides itself in offering a wide
and varied programme (including traditional scout activities, craft and creative
projects and the more adventurous activities for the older cubs and scouts!).
Weekly meetings are held either indoors in the ‘unique’ scout hut or outside
using the local community. Meetings often involve taking part in
activities based at Huish Woods (Taunton Deane District scout camp site).
Doors are always open to new members: either young people
to join the different sections or especially ADULTS to help with either running
the evenings or being part of our executive committee.

Taunton West District Guiding
Taunton West District Guiding is made up of two Rainbow
Units – girls age 5 – 7 years and four Brownies packs – girls age 7 – 10
years meeting at Norton Fitzwarren, Staplegrove and Wellsprings.
The girls then progress on to either Staplegrove Scouts or one of the
many Guide Companies around the town.
Girlguiding UK enables girls and young women to develop their potential and to make a difference to the world. We believe that an all-girl association offers girls and young women the best opportunities for personal and social development.
Our members can get involved in an enormous range of exciting activities from outdoor challenges including climbing, caving and high ropes courses to learning new skills such as Somerset Total Communication, toy making and juggling.
Over the past year the district has enjoyed a visit to Bristol Zoo, ice skating, ten pin bowling, visits to Pets at Home and Monkton Elm, trips to Huish Woods, and numerous Brownie Holidays including a District Holiday to the PGL centre in North Devon. Wellsprings Rainbows also enjoy overnight stays at more local village halls.
Rainbows meet on Wednesday or Thursday evenings and Brownies on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
